About me

Hi, I'm Jake! 👋

I've always loved travelling, exploring new places and discovering different cultures. In my spare time, I enjoy reading travel memoirs and books about history, as well as keeping active at the gym.

With a background in Environmental Science and a career focused on protecting the environment and promoting sustainability, I am genuinely passionate about the world and the people in it (us!).

Having travelled to over 20 countries, I've found that while books and travelling teach you plenty, the best way to truly understand a place is by speaking to the local people.

That's what inspired me to learn Spanish and Portuguese, allowing me to connect with more people. It was through my own language-learning journey that the idea for Folkard Language Games was born.

Why I started Folkard Language Games

I take online language lessons with two fantastic teachers, which I genuinely enjoy. But I soon realised that learning a language requires regular exposure, repetition and practice. Effectively saturating your brain in the new language.

Unfortunately, I often found traditional language-learning apps tedious. Repeating similar exercises felt more like a chore than something I looked forward to.

I wanted something I could pick up for five or ten minutes, have fun with and still learn something useful.

So, I decided to make my own!

My mission

My mission is simple: to make language learning fun, engaging and accessible through games.

I don't want to replace teachers, textbooks or structured lessons, but complement them by making regular practice and repetition something learners actually enjoy.

Through colourful mini-games, challenges and activities, I hope to help people build their vocabulary, understanding and confidence whilst having fun.

Ultimately, I want to help others discover the joy of learning languages, exploring new places, and meeting new people.

My games are currently free to play, with no account needed, so dive in, have fun and hopefully learn something new!
